Located beside Loch Chalum Chille (Portree Bay) on the A87, the Aros Centre is a Visitor Attraction and venue that is open all year. Within the Centre there are exhibition areas, a performance venue, 150 seat restaurant, cinema, café bar, art gallery, retail (bookshop, deli and gift store), training rooms and a play-area. Out-with the Covid restriction period, the Centre usually hosts a regular programme of exhibitions on the history, culture and language of Skye, alongside a programme of arts activities with a strong focus on traditional music. Aros also offers guided tours of Skye, available in both Gaelic and English, and normally would welcome groups to pre-book lunches and refreshments throughout the year.

The Centre is well used by both locals and visitors. On re-opening, after the Covid restrictions are lifted, proposals are to continue screening SkyeStory which gives an overview of the history and culture of Skye as well as trying to re-engage with both visual and performing artists to slowly build a programme of activities.

The deli shop is currently open each day between 9:00 am and 5:00pm and it is hoped that the restaurant will re-open around Easter, with customers being asked to adhere to our 2m distancing policy. It will be challenging to present any activities until the restrictions are completely lifted but we hope to be able to welcome groups, who are travelling together within their own ‘bubble’, to SkyeStory which can be pre-booked.

Throughout this challenging period the Centre has adopted stringent policies to protect both our customers and staff. We will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, and ask all who visit the Centre to adhere to these and keep everyone safe. We look forward to reopening all facilities at some point and thank all our customers for their support.
