‘Jaw-dropping’ – Forever Sport
I checked my balance and peered apprehensively at the sheer drop below. Once I felt comfortable, I radioed down to Stu.
‘I’m just gonna unclip quickly,’ I said.
My walkie-talkie crackled straight away. Stu sounded pretty stressed. ‘Dude, keep the rope on!’
I edged forward, my hands and feet scoping out the summit for any loose rock. The ridge pinnacle was still only a meter wide, if that, but I felt pretty stable.
‘This bit’s fine,’ I said. ‘The rope makes it harder for me…’
Danny MacAskill is a professional stunt trials rider for Red Bull and Santa Cruz Bicycles. Raised in Dunvegan, Isle of Skye, he was a bike mechanic, but his passion for trials riding turned into an unlikely career when his debut video – jaw-dropping stunts played out on the streets of Edinburgh – went viral. Danny has built over 250 million YouTube hits with films including The Ridge – an epic ride across the Isle of Skye’s Inaccessible Pinnacle, filmed with GoPro – while Cascadia saw him propelling himself over the top of Gran Canaria and into the crashing waves below. He was nominated for Action Sportsman of the Year and the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Award.
