| Description | A celebration of the music and the people that surround the Campbell family of singers from Greepe in the Diuirinish area of the north-west of Skye. A rare opportunity to see five members of the family come together to share songs, stories and puirt-a-beul from an upbringing in the village of Roag, a township renowned to this day for its musical connections and from their collective careers in Gaelic music. In the run-up to the publication of a family biography and music collection to be published by Acair in Summer 2010, doyenne of Gaelic song, Kenna Campbell and her brother Seumas are joined on stage by Kenna’s daughters, Mary Ann and Wilma Kennedy and by their niece Maggie Macdonald, daughter of their sister Ann. From the comic songs of Dòmhnall Ruadh and the òrain mòra of the MacLeods of Dunvegan, to the mouth music and unique versions of songs learned from older generations of the family, the evening is a picture of a place, time and people whose music and songs have had a significant influence on the Gaelic musicians of today. A concert not to be missed. |
