Anne Lorne Gillies and Rhona MacKay - St. Kilda Mailboat

Venue Talla Shomhairle @ Aros

Description Anne Lorne Gillies and Rhona MacKay – St. Kilda Mailboat: a history through song and pictures.

This is a live celebration of the rare songs of St. Kilda where now only the sea-birds sing. Once a far-flung outpost of the estates of the MacLeods of Dunvegan, the archipelago was evacuated in 1930 and its tenacious Gaelic-speaking community dispersed forever.
The recital is performed by two of Scotland’s most distinguished musicians: Gaelic singer/academic Dr. Anne Lorne Gillies and harpist Rhona MacKay. The presentation is also enhanced by Anne’s scholarly, but relaxed commentary and by a stunning array of photographs of St. Kilda which portray its natural beauty and its long-lost way of life.
Subtitles: simultaneous translations of each song ensure that the nuances of every line of each Gaelic song and poem are available to Gaelic and non-Gaelic speakers alike.

Cost Tickets £12, £10 and £6 under 16
